Due to Dr. Lawrence Scott’s extensive leadership, non-profit, organizational and educational background, he is applicable to help your organization in the areas of Leadership preparation and training, Conflict Resolution and Mediation, Equity Audits, and Diversity, Equity, and Inclusion.

BACKGROUND: Prior to teaching in higher education, Dr. Scott served over 17 years in the K-12 sector as a secondary teacher, coach, guidance counselor, district-level curriculum specialist, and administrator in San Antonio ISD, a district in which he is an alumnus. As a former recipient, and now Executive Director of the Community for Life Foundation, Dr. Scott has worked assiduously to bring corporate sponsors, school administrations, high education faculty, and community leaders together to raise money to defray the high cost of a quality education.

Community Outreach: Due to his passion to create and sustain equitable educational opportunities for all students, Dr. Scott began S.E.N.D. Consulting, which specializes in training educators, counselors, administrators, parents, community leaders and stakeholders on “best practices” to reach ALL students. He was an administrator in various schools, including in the alternative school setting. More than 90% of his student population were there due to drug conviction and addiction. Many of his students also suffered from undiagnosed or misdiagnosed mental health issues. As a former school counselor, Crisis Intervention Team Coordinator, RTI/504 coordinator, who has also worked on behavioral modification with self-contained ED students for years, Dr. Scott is aware of ways to preemptively address maladaptive behaviors. Dr. Scott has also worked in collaboration with local organizations to inform his teachers and parents on how to serve students with high recidivism. He also acclimated his staff in Trauma Informed, Restorative Practices, and Crisis Response Care, with focus on mental health awareness and response. Dr. Scott also trained his staff on prevention, and intervention of suicide ideation. He has given trainings at many universities, school districts, conferences, churches and organizations such as Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), Teach for America, SA Youth, Catholic Charities, Educational Testing Services (ETS), Mr. Cooper Mortgage Company, and the NBA’s San Antonio Spurs. He has also served on the Affirmative Action Advisory Committee for the City of San Antonio.

He also led a nationwide advisory team of experts that advised the Texas State Board of Education in the passage and implementation of the African American Studies Course curriculum for high schools in Texas.

RESEARCH/PUBLICATIONS: He is an author of several book chapters, journal articles, and a book entitled, African American Male Academic Success. His research interests include social learning theory implementation through mentorship, non-cognitive factors influencing academic success of underrepresented populations, leadership development, and teacher efficacy and retention.
